 FREQUENT UPDATES RELEASE

New Features

SQL Data Compare will now warn when dynamic data masking might cause masked data to be deployed. This warning appears when tables with data masks are selected in the source database and the user does not have UNMASK permission on the source database.

Fixes

  • SDC-1968: SQL Data Compare now preserves extended properties on foreign keys when the 'Disable foreign keys' option is selected.

11.3.6 - October 19th, 2015

 FREQUENT UPDATES RELEASE

Compatibility with SQL Compare version 11.3.6

Known Issues

If you are using the new dynamic data masking feature in Azure v12 or SQL Server 2016, you will need the UNMASK permission to compare and deploy the underlying data for masked columns correctly. SQL Data Compare will not warn you if the current user does not have the UNMASK permission, and will use the masked data during comparisons and deployment.

Fixes

  • SC-8005: SQL Data Compare no longer requires VIEW SERVER STATE permissions to register databases on SQL Server 2008 and later

  • SC-8023: All connection strings used by SQL Data Compare to connect to SQL Server now include the application name "Red Gate Software - SQL Tools"

11.3.0 - September 1st, 2015

Note: Version 11.3 rolls up all of the changes from frequent update versions 11.2.1 to 11.3.0 - if you want to receive these kinds of updates more quickly in future, you should turn on Frequent Updates.

New Features

64-bit support

SQL Data Compare will now run as a 64-bit process on a 64-bit OS. This applies to both the main application GUI and the SQLDataCompare.exe command-line.

SQL Data Compare will be installed to C:\Program Files (x86) unless you customize the install location, but it will still run as a 64-bit process where possible.

Azure v12 and SQL Server 2016 connectivity

SQL Data Compare can now connect to Azure v12 and SQL Server 2016 CTP2 instances.

This does not include support for any new features of SQL Server 2016. New feature support will be released in SQL Data Compare 12.

Fixes

  • More reliable detection of SQL Server compatibility level
  • SC-4997: Azure V11 and V12 have been added to the list of SQL Server versions in the 'comparison settings for scripts folder'. This means that SQL Data Compare can now handle Azure scripts folders correctly
  • SC-7991: Databases with spaces in their name can now be registered from SQL Server 2000

  • SC-8001: Databases with ‘{’ and ‘}’ characters in their name can now be registered

  • SDC-1772: Pressing Ctrl+A to select all objects and then clicking one of the checkboxes no longer causes an error when the comparison includes tables or views that cannot be compared.
  • SDC-1836: Data Compare no longer truncates large (>8000 byte) data values when comparing tables using a non-unique comparison key
  • SDC-1887: Data Compare now correctly restores data compression settings when rebuilding an index during deployment
  • SDC-1912: The command line now correctly recognises comparison options specified using the /options argument. This fixes a regression introduced in version 11.2.0.
