Silverlight out-of-browser profiling causes ANTS Performance & Memory Profilers to crash
Published 14 May 2018
Profiling Silverlight out-of-browser applications causes ANTS Performance Profiler and ANTS Memory Profiler to crash without displaying any error dialog.
This issue only affects profiling Silverlight applications in out-of-browser mode. Silverlight applications that run inside a web browser are unaffected.
Cause
This issue happens on systems which have the MS15-049 security fix (also known as KB3058985) installed.
This security fix was issued in Windows Updates on May 12th, 2015. The patch prevents an elevation of privilege issue by restricting Silverlight applications running inside sllauncher.exe (the out-of-browser Silverlight container) to a low integrity level.
Because of the low integrity level, ANTS Performance / Memory Profiler cannot communicate with sllauncher.exe, and so it cannot profile your application.
How to fix
There is currently no fix or workaround. You may wish to uninstall KB3058985 to allow profiling, but we don't recommend this.
Future versions of ANTS Memory & Performance Profilers will contain a fix for this issue.
