Prepare for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 end of support for SQL Clone
Published 25 February 2020
Redgate is planning to end Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 support for SQL Clone in the next major version of the product. The SQL Clone Server has already ended support for Windows Server 2008 R2 as of version 4.5.0. The SQL Clone agents will still support Windows Server 2008 R2 until version 5.0.
If you are a SQL Clone customer, we will contact you directly nearer the time. If you require help migrating SQL Clone from a Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 machine please email support@red-gate.com.
Why are we doing this?
Microsoft discontinued Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 support on January 14, 2020 and no longer provides technical assistance and software updates for either. This limits our ability to maintain Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 test machines at Redgate to ensure that SQL Clone works as expected on those operating systems.

What does end of support mean for me?
Future versions of SQL Clone will no longer support Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, and older versions of SQL Clone will not be patched for issues relating to Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2.
In the lead up to ending support for SQL Clone on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 we will continue to fix issues as best we can. However, our ability to provide updates may be restricted by Microsoft discontinuing technical assistance and software updates. Earlier versions of SQL Clone will continue to work on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, and you can keep using them for as long as you like, but new fixes and features will only be released for newer versions of Windows.
What happens if I continue to use Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2?
You may continue using SQL Clone 4 and earlier on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, but we do not recommend upgrading beyond SQL Clone 4.
