Retrieving alert settings using SQL Data Compare

You can use SQL Data Compare to retrieve alert configuration settings from a backup version of the Data Repository database, and synchronize them with a new database. This saves you having to manually configure alert settings on multiple databases. You may find this useful if:
- You've been using Redgate Monitor to monitor your test and development environment, but now want to deploy Redgate Monitor to a production machine to monitor the production environment too.
- You want to use multiple installations of Redgate Monitor, for example if you have servers based at different locations that require identical alert configuration settings.
- You need to create multiple Data Repository databases to monitor a significant number of instances while avoiding performance issues.
Alert configuration changes at the All Servers level are retrieved and synchronized. Server-specific alert settings will still need to be configured manually.
The basic steps required to retrieve and synchronize configuration settings using SQL Data Compare are described below. For detailed information, click on the hyperlinks to take you to the SQL Data Compare documentation.
- Set the data sources. Select the backup Data Repository database as the source, and the new database as the target.
- View the comparison results. Alert configuration settings are stored in the
config.AlertConfiguration
table. The comparison results display the detected differences. - Deploy the data sources. Use the checkboxes to select the rows in the
config.AlertConfiguration
table, and synchronize using the Deployment wizard. You might also want to synchronize the remaining tables on theconfig
schema that have anAlertConfiguration
suffix.
