If you encounter errors when accessing a SQL Storage Compress compressed or encrypted database, check the following:

• Make sure the HyperBac Control Service is running.

  For more information, see Operating System error 31.

• Make sure the database is online. If the database is offline, use the Bring online task in SQL Server Management Studio or run the following T-SQL statement against the master database for each compressed database:

  ALTER DATABASE <database name> SET ONLINE

• Make sure your trial period has not expired or that you have activated a SQL Storage Compress license. 

• If the database is encrypted, ensure the correct key file is available in the keys directory on the server.
