SQL Backup 10

SQL Backup log files

SQL Backup Pro produces three different types of log file, Application log files from the GUI, Activity log files from backup and restore operations and Cloud Storage Client log files. These files are useful if you have encountered a problem and are working with Redgate support to resolve it.

Application log files

Application log files collect information about the GUI application while you are using it.  These log files are not useful if investigating a backup or restore problem, please check the Activity log files section.  Or if investigating a Cloud Storage Client problem, please check the Cloud Storage Client log files section

By default, the GUI application log files are created on the machine where the GUI is installed in the following paths:

  • %LOCALAPPDATA%\Red Gate\Logs\SQL Backup (Windows Vista, Windows 2008 and later)
  • %UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Red Gate\Logs\SQL Backup (Windows XP and Windows 2003)

Activity log files

Activity log files collect information about each backup and restore activity performed in SQL Backup Pro.  Please locate these log files if investigating a backup or restore error.

The activity log files are stored on the machine where the SQL Backup server side components are installed, which by default is in this path:  C:\ProgramData\Red Gate\SQL Backup\Log\<SQL Instance Name>.

The GUI user can also view the log file details via the GUI →Activity History → Select the backup or restore task you wish to investigate → Right click and select "Show Log" option.  The Activity Log window with the log file contents for the job selected.

For more detailed information on activity log files, see SQL Backup log files in File management options.

Cloud Storage Client log files

Cloud Storage Client log files collect information about each upload performed in SQL Backup Pro to your Cloud Storage system (if you have enabled this option).

The Cloud Storage Client log files are stored on the machine where the SQL Backup server side components are installed, in this path:  C:\ProgramData\Red Gate\Logs\SQL Backup 10\

The files will have the following naming convention SqbHostedStorageClient.<integer value>.txt, for example SqbHostedStorageClient.5332.txt

These log files will contain information on the activities of the SQL Backup Cloud Storage Client (SQBHostedStorageClient.exe).  Useful for investigating problems and upload errors to your Cloud Storage system.

For more detailed information on configuring Cloud Storage, see Cloud Storage Settings in  Server Options → Cloud Storage Settings tab.
