Oracle client tools are required for TNS connections. If you have 64-bit client tools installed, you need to run the 64-bit version of Schema Compare for Oracle
Published 26 July 2017
Problem
On machines running 64-bit version of the Windows OS, the installer installs both 32-bit version and 64-bit version of Schema Compare for Oracle.
If you run the 32-bit version of Schema Compare for Oracle on a machine running the 64-bit Oracle Client and attempt to use a TNS Connection, the following message appears if you attempt to use the 32-bit version of the tool with the 64-bit Oracle Client installed:
“Oracle client tools are required for TNS connections. If you have 64-bit client tools installed, you need to run the 64-bit version of Schema Compare for Oracle"
Solution
With the 64-bit Oracle Client installed on the machine running Schema Compare for Oracle, the user needs to use the 64-bit version of Schema Compare for Oracle and not the 32-bit version. Likewise, if the machine has the 32-bit Oracle Client installed, the user needs to use the 32-bit version of Schema Compare for Oracle and not the 64-bit version.
In summary, the version of Schema Compare for Oracle you need to use for a TNS connection running on a Windows 64-bit OS depends on the version of the Oracle client you're using. If the 32-bit version of the Oracle Client is installed, use the 32-bit version of Schema Compare for Oracle. If the 64-bit version of the Oracle Client is installed, use the 64-bit version of Schema Compare for Oracle.
