SQL Data Catalog has the following components:

• The SQL Data Catalog application
  • Hosts the website.
  • Hosts the API.
  • Performs some background tasks, e.g. periodic scanning for changes in your estate.
  • Provides a PowerShell module for easy access to the API.
• The SQL Data Catalog Repository
  • Where the classifications and knowledge about your estate are maintained.

The SQL Data Catalog application is installed on a single server and requires access to the SQL Data Catalog repository (with permissions to modify the schema).
