From version 1.4.7, when a new update for SQL Data Catalog is released, the update will be shown on the web UI:

Non-Admin Users

Clicking on the update will provide a link to view the update’s release notes. 

Admin Users

If the user has admin permissions on SQL Data Catalog, the option to install the update will be presented. Clicking update will perform the update in the background and will cause the service to be offline for approximately one minute. It is possible that it may take more than one minute, depending on the complexity of the update and if any database migrations are being run. If the service does not become available after a period of time, download the update from the releases page and install manually.
