SQL Compare 13

SQL Compare 13.2 release notes

User creation where a login does not exist

Previous versions of SQL Compare created logins with a default password of P@ssw0rd, with a warning to remind you to change the password.

With legislation around security getting tighter, SQL Compare 13.2 is moving to a "secure by design" approach:

This SQL is a little longer than before, but basically it ensures:

  • We will never create a server login, as this could have security implications
  • On Azure SQL DB, we won't check for a login (since that requires a separate database connection)
  • If the appropriate login exists, we'll create a user associated with it
  • Otherwise, we'll create the user WITHOUT LOGIN.

13.2.4.5728 - March 23rd 2018
