Reference to table or view in other database

It is perfectly acceptable to reference a table or view in another database as long as you use the standard three-or four-part naming convention. However, it is often better to avoid hard-coding these references and use synonyms instead. For further details, please refer to the following Product article: Managing Cross-Database Object References (EI016, EI026, EI027).
