Redgate Flyway

AI services in Flyway

AI services are in development and are available under public preview. Capabilities are subject to change.

AI services in Flyway augment information in Flyway Desktop and provide accelerators for common tasks.

Limited information is sent to a Redgate-hosted AI service, which generates suggestions that are presented to users in Flyway Desktop. We take our commitment to protecting customer information seriously.
AI services are opt-in, and can only be enabled by an organization admin. AI services are available for anyone who has a subscription license for Flyway.

Generate migration script description

Automatically provides a migration script description based on the contents of a migration script and the conventions that have been previously used in the project.

Summarize migration script

Provides a short summary of the intent of a migration script, reducing the need to interrogate a script to understand its purpose.
Script summaries are produced automatically if the AI service is enabled. Baseline scripts are excluded.

Generate commit message

Provides a version control commit message based on the contents of scripts selected, preventing the need to summarize from your memory or review the scripts manually. Select the scripts, then press the AI button to generate a commit message.

Enabling AI services

Prerequisites

  • Ensure api.prod.prompt.redgate-platform.com on port 443 (https) is not blocked by firewall rules.
  • Create an organization (if you don't already have one).
  • Ensure that Flyway users are members of the organization by configuring SSO (recommended) or inviting them from the Portal.
  • Ensure Flyway Desktop version 8.7.2 or later is installed.
  • You are online and have an active online license (offline permit will not work)

AI features can then be enabled by an Organization admin in the Portal settings page. A notification will appear to users signing in to Flyway Desktop indicating that AI services are enabled.

AI services can be disabled locally in Flyway Desktop, or at the organization level for all members of an organization:

  • To disable AI services within an instance of Flyway Desktop go to Settings and change the AI features switch to Off.
  • AI features can be disabled for all members of an organization in the Portal settings page.

Troubleshooting

If AI services are not working try the following:

  • First, sign out of Flyway Desktop then sign back in. Click the person icon, select Licensing, then select Sign Out followed by Sign In.
  • Ensure api.prod.prompt.redgate-platform.com on port 443 (https) is not blocked by firewall rules.
  • Ensure AI features are enabled for your organization from the Portal settings page.
  • Ensure the affected users are members of your organization within the Portal.
  • Ensure AI services are enabled in Flyway Desktop. Go to settings then toggle Redgate AI features to On by pressing the switch. If the switch is not present, then the organization admin has not enabled AI services for your organization.
  • Ensure Flyway Desktop users have version 8.7.2 or later installed.
  • In some instances, the AI service may not be able to generate responses:
    • When a script or a commit diff is extremely large
    • When a script or commit diff is empty
    • When the contents of a script cannot be understood by the AI service
    • AI services are rate limited. Wait five minutes and try again.

How your information is used

  • AI services in Flyway may transmit the contents of migration scripts and commit diffs to Redgate’s private AI service
  • Your information is used privately. It is not used for training, retained or shared. It is processed transiently and cannot be accessed once a response is generated.
  • Redgate AI services are private. Redgate cannot access the information sent to the private AI service.
  • Redgate may collect usage statics so that we can understand how AI services are being used and improve them.

Redgate LLM features are powered by a combination of public AI models to provide the best possible outcome (all subject to our privacy guidance). These are all hosted on Redgate’s Amazon Bedrock server.
