SQL Prompt 11.4 release notes

Due to licensing updates, users will need to re-sign in to SQL Prompt post this update. 

Use SQL Prompt > Help > Manage License... main menu option in SSMS/VS to log in again.

11.4.2.26116 - Released on 23 July 2026 (Standalone installer)

Features

  • Added a new MCP tool for Redgate Assistant, allowing it to fetch the query run plan for optimization. 

Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where query indentation formatting broke when comments were present inside parentheses.
  • Removed unnecessary logging noise from Redgate Assistant chat UI operations.
  • Fixed an issue where table definition was not fetched for Azure Synapse Dedicated Pools.
  • Fixed an issue where JSON_OBJECTAGG and JSON_ARRYAGG were incorrectly suggested when utilizing "All non-aggregated columns".
  • Fixed an issue where SQL query tab text had low contrast when Tab Coloring was enabled.
  • Fixed an issue in SSMS 22.6 and later where SQL Error highlighting was disabled when IntelliSense was turned off by SQL Prompt.

Features

  • Added support for grouping Stored Procedures, Functions and Views by Schema in Object Explorer.
  • Removed the Open Data Modeler Object Explorer context-menu option for the selected database (SSMS only).
  • Removed 9,500 character limit on Redgate Assistant MCP tool calls.
  • Added a new MCP tool to retrieve build and IntelliSense errors of the content in the current editor window to complement the existing one to gather execution errors.

    Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where SQL Prompt CLI did not respect formatting exclusions.
  • Fixed an issue where SQL Prompt would crash when a menu command fails to load.
  • Fixed issue where Redgate Assistant MCP server could fail to launch if Redgate licensing was not yet ready.
  • Fixed an issue where the Redgate Assistant MCP tool for checking T-SQL execution errors could crash when the script contained a batch with a severe syntax error.

11.4.0.25545 - Released on 01 July 2026 (Standalone installer)

Features

  • Released a new AI preview feature, Redgate Assistant, a chat based AI interface within SQL Prompt that can be used to generate SQL, fix bugs, and more.
  • Redgate Assistant can be enabled in the SQL Prompt options, on the AI page, under the preview section.
    • Please note that Redgate Assistant requires WebView2 to be installed to work.
  • It can be accessed through the SQL Prompt menu button, or through the keybind Alt-A
  • Redgate Assistant is able to read the information inside your query editor window, database information (but not contents), and schema information.
  • For information on models used, and other AI related information, please see our AI hub: https://ai.redgate.cloud/hub/trust.
  • Due to a change in our licensing system, users will be logged out and need to log back in to SQL Prompt to continue using the product after this update.
    • Please go to the SQL Prompt > Help > Manage License... main menu in SSMS/VS to log in again.
