Creating a custom metric and alert

If you don't want to create a custom metric and alert from scratch, we've provided a website, Redgate Monitor Metrics, containing a range of metrics that you can install automatically. See Using the Redgate Monitor metrics website.

How do I create a custom metric and alert?

A simple wizard guides you through each step of the creation process.

To create a custom metric:

  1. Go to the Configuration page. Under Alerts, select Custom metrics and alerts:
  2. Click the Add a custom metric button:

Next steps

Step 1. Configure metric – includes sections for defining the metric, configuring collection frequency and other settings.

Step 2. Test metric - testing the T-SQL query against one or more databases.

Step 3. Add alert  – optionally base an alert on the metric by completing sections similar to those displayed on the Alert settings page (Configuration > Alert settings).

Step 4. Review & create – creates the custom metric and alert.
