Backup Storage
Published 07 December 2022
To provide backups for images you need to use either a NFS or SMB file share location. The file share will be mounted into the application and the backup file will be read directly from there during image creation operations.
When creating a data image you need to provide the backup file path relative to the file share root. (See data image definition examples for more details).
If a NFS or SMB file share is not available, select the None option. The None option will allow the creation of empty data images (A data image with no content on it other than a vanilla installation of the database engine with system tables). Sadly will mean that you will not be able to create data images whose content will be what you defined in your backup file(s). Once either NFS or SMB file share becomes available, you can edit the config via the Admin Console →Config →Backup Storage and configure the required file share protocol.
File shares are only used for images created from backups
The file share configured for Redgate Clone will only be accessed and mounted for usage by the product if you are creating a Data image from a backup.
In other words, file shares will not be touched when creating empty data images.
